Nice To Meet You!

FIRST BLOG POST! Woo hoo! Thanks for checking out some of my photos and design work.  Before we go any further, let’s start by getting to know one another.

I’m a Southern Illinois native. I’m a university employee by day, photographer, writer and designer by night. 😉  I cook a mean cilantro lime chicken and I can turn my tongue into a W.

I’m a big fan of Nascar, Cardinal baseball and UFC fighting. I have serious music knowledge.  Let me hear the first few notes of a country song and I can probably tell you the title, who sings it, and all of the lyrics!

If I had to pick two celebrities as parents I would choose Bill Murray and Carrie Underwood. Bill Murray is such a cool kind of guy with so many roles in fantastic movies, and Carrie Underwood has a beautiful voice, maybe it would rub off on me a bit.

On a more serious note, I’m all about making our OWN creative voices. We were all designed with our own version of creativity. It could be creativity in photography, having an eye for interior design, the creativity of UFC fighting, writing or the creativity of teaching, etc.  Photography and writing are just my ways of expressing my God-given creativity.

I think Douglass C. Mann, author of The Art of Helping Others says it best, “By looking at the world in particular ways, they see it more clearly, and they invite the best of us to see it more clearly and to love it more perfectly.”

I started Fully Focused Photography because of my obsession with a camera.  Ask my husband and family, I’m a camera nerd. I take pictures of EVERYTHING from the mundane to the busy!

I’ve been this way since I got my first Barbie camera when I was four.  After the Barbie camera I upgraded to my first Canon.

Picture this, a two inch thick camera with an inch wide view finder.  That was my first (legit) camera in the 7th grade.

The industry has come a long way from my first point and shoot, and I thought I was the coolest thing in the world.

The love I had for the industry grew. I purchased many other Canon point-and-shoots before I finally saved up for my very own Canon DSLR in college.

I got my Bachelors in advertising last May that sparked my love for incorporating design, photography, writing and layouts into every piece of work I put out.

I really believe creativity can tie communities together.  We are all creative in our own, unique way.  As I said before, being an artist doesn’t mean you have to have a paint brush or camera in your hand.  Artistry is within every craft, given to us by our Creator.

My favorite part of photography is catching the quirky moments. So what if it’s not exactly in focus or perfect lighting, it’s a moment.

Great photos and compositions use those moments and blend them with light, shadows and personality.

So what makes me different? I love interacting with people and using photography as a tool that unites. My love for photography is not going anywhere, so I want to use it in the best way possible, joining with community and celebrating Jesus and his people!
